Last month was a month full of new experiences for me. I do not normally like "new." It was uncomfortable for me. I survived, though. Not only did I start a new job that requires me to drive hours away from my home, I also had to learn to deal a new diagnosis of diabetes type 1. I hope December calms down and fills my heart with peace. I could really use some of that.
I also started writing a new novel. It started off very well but I hit major writers block a few weeks ago. Have any of you ever experienced this? It feels very defeating. This feeling has led me to become unmotivated to start writing again.
Today I am vowing to start up my writing and stop being lazy. God wants me to work. God did not make me to just get by. Let's see how this goes...

Dangerous Thorns
Protecting ourselves from dangerous thorns is vital to our health and survival. The right clothing or gloves can keep our skin from getting pricked by thorns. This idea can also help us in other areas of our life. There are many "dangerous thorns" out there and we need to keep up our protection from them. Keeping our spiritual connection strong can help us make better choices in life. We are not as susceptible to harmful situations, songs, movies or people. Staying strong does not happen by accident. It is deliberate and takes hard work.

This has been a theme in my life lately. I have to remember to keep my spiritual connection strong against those that want to take advantage of me. A person I believed was a great friend turned out to show themselves as a user. I had to get that thorn out of my life. It is a sad situation but my usefulness to them was completely diminished. It seemed my friendship was hurting instead of helping.
Being taken advantage of by people that are close to us is hurtful. Protect yourself against these "thorns."
Is Star Trek Into Darkness Worth Seeing?
I have to warn you that this review is a bit biased. I love Star Trek. I am not a huge Trekkie that knows every detail and plot line, however. I probably would but I do not have time for that. I have watched all of the Star Trek television series and all of the movies. When I heard that Star Trek Into Darkness was coming out, I could not wait to see it.
I finally saw this movie last night. I enjoyed watching it. It was funny, clever and suspenseful. I will probably go and see it again within the week. I did have a few issues with the plot and the details, however. There were a few glaring problems that I saw.
While I do realize that this is Abram's Star Trek, I do think that Rodenberry would be rolling in his grave. I am not sure that he would have liked the plot changes that have been made. Understanding that the timeline has been changed, some of these changes could possibly make sense. I do not think some are necessary, though.
My biggest issue is the Spock/Uhura relationship. I think that it is a neat idea but when it causes Spock not to be true to his character, I have problems with that. He shows too much emotion in this movie for my taste. Also, the crying scene with Captain Kirk was a little over the top.
The other issue was with the cursing. By this time, humans have eliminated most cursing from their vernacular. This is pointed out in Star Trek IV when they go back in time and hear people cursing. Spock didn't even know what it was. When Kirk explained it to him, Spock tried, very badly, to curse himself. This film had a lot of unnecessary cursing.
Overall, it is a fun film to watch. If you can watch it without comparing it to the original plot and cast, it would be even better. Also, throw out any physics lessons you have been taught because many scenes defy gravity and any other physics laws that are known to man. When viewed as a fun, science fiction movie, it is a good flick. I recommend watching it, especially in the theater. The action scenes look amazing on the big screen.
Figuring Life Out...
I think it is tough to be a girl. This is especially true for girls going through puberty. There is so much to figure out. The new feelings, new body parts, new thoughts that occur. It can feel like you are going crazy! Now that I am an adult, I think I have forgotten how difficult that it can be at that age.
My daughter is starting to go through this period in her life. I often times do not know how to help her. Of course, I explain that this is all a part of God's plan and that it is natural. That does not always hep. It certainly does not answer her questions.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Review
If you are a Star Trek fan like me, then you are not-so-patiently waiting for the next movie to be released. While I personally wish that the upcoming movie was based on the Enterprise television series, this is the next best thing. As far as prequels go, this new installment should be great.
This movie involves Captain James T. Kirk and his crew taking on a new enemy. This enemy is threatening the galaxy. It will be interesting to see how they make this plot different from all the rest.

I personally feel that the last movie, Star Trek, relied heavily on special effects and beautiful actors. I still believe that the story line was well done. My one major complaint is that it is more sexual than any other in the Star Trek franchise and this stopped me from allowing my kids to watch it.
Zachary Quinto plays an excellent young Spock. I think he was a wise choice and probably the best actor in the movie. I plan to see it on May 17th (in the US) and probably will be on of the many geeks waiting in line for the midnight showing. I will post an updated review on this movie soon after.

Freedom From Giving Up Control
I like to be in control. I really like things to go my way. I often feel that if people would just do things my way, life would be much better. The truth is, my way is not always better. In fact, I usually mess things up when I take control. Of course, when things go wrong, I blame it on other people, places and things.
This week I have learned my lesson with taking control. It just does not work. When I allow God to control my life, things seem to work out. It is amazing. I have a long time friend that I am having issue with. Honestly, I have allowed her to take advantage of me for years. She is a hard drinker (drinks tequila all the time) and has brought nothing but chaos into my life. She has used me and never been a good friend to me. I do not understand why I have allowed this situation to go on for so long. In fact, it bewilders me.
Over the years, I have made excuses for her, watched her child and never held her accountable. She has crossed every boundary I have had. Over the last few weeks, God has been revealing to me that He has a plan for her. It does not include me. I have sat down, decided what my true boundaries are and stuck to them. Needless to say, she is not happy with me and I doubt she will be contacting me anytime soon.
I have also had to look at my responsibility in this situation. I have had these type of relationships my entire life. It has to stop. I just cannot live this way. My family cannot live this way. I need to keep healthier relationships and cut ties with the unhealthy ones. I know this is God's will for me. My boundaries have to be respected from now on.
Giving up this control is not easy for me. I like to think I can "fix" people. No one truly has this power, though. I cannot fix her anymore than she can fix me. Letting go is not easy for me and I will take it one day at a time. I am realizing that I should not do anything for someone that they should be doing for themselves. I cannot take that responsibility away from them. Let's see how where this takes me...

NaNoWriMo
NaNoWriMo (National Writing Month) starts in November. It may seem like a long ways away but it will be here before we know it. I have decided to participate this year and I am very excited! It encourages those that participate to write a 50,000 word book. When held accountable, this is suppose to really work.
What I really like about NaNoWriMo is that you can create an account on their website, track your progress and get a lot of pep talks and support. While I am mostly a literary analyst, I believe I can come up with a plan for a good book between now and November.
I hope that those that have been considering writing the great American novel will join me this year. Let's get our creative juices flowing and do what we have always wanted to. Let's write and join NaNoWriMo!

What to Read?
Well, it has been awhile since I've written on this blog. Having writer's block is no joke. I have slowly found my way back, though. I have learned over the years that reading helps to stir my passion for writing.
What I am Reading Makes a Difference
Currently I am reading A Crown in the Stars, by Kacy Barnett-Gramckow and Jesus Among Other Gods by Kavi Zacharias. While neither of these are the great American novel, each has inspired me in different way. The first has inspired to write about characters that people will like and also write about interesting characters that people will hate. The antagonists is just as important as the protagonist.
The second book I am reading, Jesus Among Other Gods, is reminding me to always question. Questioning helps to strengthen our own beliefs. In my writing, I need to remember that the reader will be questioning everything from motives to character perceptions.
What Will I do?
Today I will continue to look for inspiration. I will start with my environment. I need an inspirational place to write. Any suggestions? This blog may also help Writer's inspiration

It Has Been Awhile...
It has been awhile since I have blogged. It is not that I have not had the time, it is more that I had lost my love for writing for a bit. I felt dry, like something sucked all of the creative juices from my body. Life seems to do that from time to time. Too much pain makes a person numb at some point.
I am moving on, moving past all of the pain and torment of life. As Isaiah once said,
I am moving on, moving past all of the pain and torment of life. As Isaiah once said,
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
There are good things to concentrate on. There are great things to look forward to. God is in charge. It is hard to remember that sometimes but it IS true. No matter how many bad mistakes I make, life moves on. I am forgetting the former things and I will no longer dwell on the past. This is easier said then done, so I will take it one day at a time. I will be of service to others more often and participate in life a little more. Do you ever feel this way? If so, comment and tell me how you have gotten out of your slump.
